What do you remember about creating your Valley Hope Cup during treatment? What did your design represent at that point in your recovery?
I was pretty content in the message my cup would invoke. As someone who is not especially religious or spiritual, my struggle with finding a force greater than myself was a huge factor in choosing a message of Hope! The design is Pandora’s Box from Greek mythology. After it was opened all of mankind's flaws were released onto the world leaving Hope to remain in the Box. I realized that Hope is a wonderful feeling to hold onto during my sobriety. Hope for a better, more fulfilling life, Hope for i can stay on this path, Hope that I and others that are struggling with sobriety can find the solace to make it one day at a time and mend broken bonds.
What did it mean to return for Renewal Day, see your cup again, and realize how much your life had changed in one year?
I have been sober for three years, I have not had a chance to return to receive my cup. However, thinking back on the time I spent in treatment and the design I chose. It has shown me that Hope is a worthy choice! I have turned my Hope into reality and have mended relationships and have shown myself that I am capable of loving myself.
Today, when you look at your Valley Hope Cup, what does it symbolize for you?
It symbolizes my past regrets and Hope for a better life are attainable if I just maintain my positive outlook and know that all things get better with time and understanding the situation.
Is there anything else about your Valley Hope Cup or your recovery journey that you'd like to share?
I am eternally grateful to the staff of Vally Hope for their support and encouragement throughout everyone’s journey! Thank You!!
People would say things like “be in the moment” and “one day at a time” and that never made any sense to me. I can honestly say that I’ve learned how to do those things today.
In the first six months of sobriety I have restored my relationships with my family and friends, fallen in love with my sober partner, thrived in my career and gotten plugged back in with communities I enjoyed before my addiction.
My passion for reading has turned into a wonderful opportunity of reading for a network that helps others. I am now two years into my volunteer work and absolutely love it!
