What do you remember about creating your Valley Hope Cup during treatment? What did your design represent at that point in your recovery?

I remember my cup day as being the first day I felt like I had my brain and body back. There was hope for a new beginning there. I picked lyrics from Wicked to place around my cup, because I was ready to “Defy Gravity”. That hope blossomed some every day, even on the hard days where my brain wasn’t ready to move forward, I still had hope.

What did it mean to return for Renewal Day, see your cup again, and realize how much your life had changed in one year?

It felt so empowering, to be present for my first renewal day and reflect on the journey the past year had brought me on. It was the first time in a long time that I had believed I could achieve more.

Today, when you look at your Valley Hope Cup, what does it symbolize for you?

It’s been nearly 11 years for me, and I still feel so empowered when I look at my cup. The things I have accomplished in that time frame, make me realize how important hope can be.
