John M.’s Story

Which Valley Hope location did you attend?

Valley Hope of Cushing

When is your sobriety birthday?

November 7, 2005

What do you remember about creating your Valley Hope Cup during treatment? What did your design represent at that point in your recovery?

I had to make 2 cups because I first went to Cushing in May of 2005 and made my first cup. I left thinking i was going to do this thing my way, guess what it does not work that way and relapsed in about 2 weeks. Went back on November 7th 2005 totally broken. Made my 2nd cup and really put a lot into it this time.

What did it mean to return for Renewal Day, see your cup again, and realize how much your life had changed in one year?

I was just so excided that I had made it 1 year with out a drink of alcohol and my life had changed so much just in that year but still had so much to learn.

Today, when you look at your Valley Hope Cup, what does it symbolize for you?

It could all be gone in a flash if i do not continue to work a program.

Is there anything else about your Valley Hope Cup or your recovery journey that you'd like to share?

Going to Valley Hope was probably one of the best thing that ever happened to me.
