- 2025: More Than My Recovery
Which Valley Hope location did you attend?
Valley Hope of Norton
When is your sobriety birthday?
June 20, 2001
How has recovery influenced the person you are today?
My life in addiction was a total mess! I was isolated, sick, scared and abusing my body. I was suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and lack of sleep. I was disconnected from all family and friends. Thank God I made it (thanks to my boss) to Valley Hope. In a week's time, I wanted to live again. In two weeks', I wanted to live in recovery again. I completed residential care and did Continuing Care for more than a year. It's been a complete turnaround of my life. I am happily married, a homeowner, and business-owner. I recently celebrated 24 years recovery. Thank you Valley Hope. I still attend 12 Step meetings, and I still have a sponsor! It works if you work it!
What’s something meaningful you’ve started doing since getting sober that brings you joy or purpose?
I returned to school to be an addiction counselor, massage therapist and a yoga teacher. My life is full of family, friends and an awesome career.
What goals have you achieved or are working toward because of your recovery?
I recently traveled to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I drove an ATV/UTV and practiced yoga on my pit stops. It's a blessing to travel and have fun in recovery. From the girl who isolated in the back room of a house on a dead-end street, to the person who travels and finds adventures from the west coast to NYC.
Is there a passion or talent you have pursued in recovery?
I teach yoga at the Norton center. As an alum, I'm grateful to spend time with the patients and love to help them find some peace (and big inhales and exhales) on their new journey!
