- 2025: More Than My Recovery
Which Valley Hope location did you attend?
Valley Hope of Cushing
When is your sobriety birthday?
January 13, 2018
How has recovery influenced the person you are today?
Everything wonderful in my life today is a direct result of my recovery. I went to Valley Hope twice seeking help—the first time, I left convinced I could do things my own way. It didn’t take long to realize that my way would never work. When I returned to Valley Hope the second time, I was even more broken and desperate than before, and I am profoundly grateful that I did. After graduating, I immersed myself in the twelve-step program, and it completely transformed my life. Today, I’m blessed with a full and meaningful life, centered on recovery and enriched by family and dear friends.
What’s something meaningful you’ve started doing since getting sober that brings you joy or purpose?
After my first year of sobriety, I began working at a treatment center and quickly discovered that helping others was my true calling. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of leading treatment centers in Oklahoma, Las Vegas, and now Kansas City. Through this journey, I’ve found my true purpose—helping others, just like me, build a better life.
What goals have you achieved or are working toward because of your recovery?
Because of my recovery, I’ve achieved goals I never thought were possible. I’ve built a career in treatment, moving from a technician to executive director, and I’ve had the privilege of leading centers across the country. Beyond professional achievements, recovery has given me the ability to show up for my family and friends in a meaningful way. I’ve created a life rooted in purpose, integrity, and service.
Is there a passion or talent you have pursued in recovery?
In my recovery, I’ve discovered a passion for helping others find the same hope and freedom that I was given. It has also allowed me to nurture talents I never had the discipline or clarity to pursue before, like leadership and connecting with people on a deeper level. These are gifts I would have never recognized, let alone used, if it weren’t for recovery.
