How has recovery influenced the person you are today?
Recovery has reshaped me into a more grounded, intentional, and compassionate person. I’m learning to slow down, face life with honesty, and choose actions that align with the kind of parent, partner, and human being I want to be. It’s taught me resilience and given me a deeper appreciation for the chance to live authentically, without hiding or numbing. Most importantly, it has re-centered my focus on love—especially the unconditional love I want my son to grow up surrounded by.
What’s something meaningful you’ve started doing since getting sober that brings you joy or purpose?
Since getting sober, I’ve embraced being a parent in a whole new way. My son Evan gives me a daily reason to stay present and to keep pushing forward, even on the hardest days. I’ve also found joy in documenting my journey—through writing, letters, and reflection—because it helps me process everything while leaving something meaningful behind for my family. These small but intentional acts give me purpose and remind me that recovery isn’t just about surviving, but about building something lasting.
What goals have you achieved or are working toward because of your recovery?
Recovery has given me the stability and clarity to set real goals again. One of my biggest goals is to educate myself—not just in a formal sense, but in every area of life where knowledge gives me back my power. I want to understand the systems I’m navigating, advocate for myself and my family, and use what I’ve learned to move toward reunification. Long-term, I want to take my lived experience and turn it into something I can give back, whether that’s by helping others in similar situations, sharing my story, or using what I’ve learned to make the path easier for the next person.
Is there a passion or talent you have pursued in recovery?
Yes—writing has become both a passion and a tool for me in recovery. Whether it’s drafting letters, journaling, or even creating speeches or tattoos that carry deep meaning, I’ve found a way to turn my thoughts and experiences into something powerful. Writing helps me express myself, process emotions, and hold on to the bigger vision I have for my life. I’ve also discovered a passion for helping others through my own story—whether it’s sharing my perspective, encouraging others, or simply showing that change is possible.
